Yesterday morning’s warm up. Raccoon from Funrama, go check this comic out - www.funramacomic.com

  2. Raccoon and Flora by Julia Scheele

I’ve taken to commissioning artists for Funrama art to satiate the appetites of people waiting (and waiting) (and waiting) for FUNRAMA #3. All 6 people. This is a fun hobby of mine, commissioning artists to draw my characters. Here’s a fetching Funrama piece by UK illustrator Julia Scheele.

  4. Quick sketch of Raccoon and her friends looking justifiably pissed at me for having to put FUNRAMA on hiatus.

Read Funrama #1 for free and buy #2 for a couple bucks at www.funramacomic.com

  5. Unused Raccoon color study.

The plan for years—and years and years—was to do a run of Raccoon solo stories after I finish the main Funrama story, but ofcourse, I still have a lot of work to do as far as the main story goes. The plan was to eventually do the comics in color but I’m so slow with interior coloring that I haven’t made that happen yet.

This week, www.funramacomic.com  got a small update with the Store getting a slight upgrade. Funrama #1 is free to read on the front page and the download is 35¢. Funrama #2 is $2.00.

I’m diligently working on #3, but it’s been delayed as I’ve taken on other jobs.

  6. inking process for Funrama #3

  7. Here’s a peak at Cactus Man from the in-progress FUNRAMA #3. It’s coming! This is from a scene before some very bad things happen to him. Sometimes it’s hard putting so much work into a comic that hardly anyone reads, but I just keep on truckin’! This comic is just for me and anyone else who wants to join in the fun. This is the purest form of comic-making I think I can ever hope to accomplish. People who support and read it will be rewarded with delicious comic. Thanks!

For the first time ever , Funrama #1 is available to read for free.

For the first time ever, Funrama #2 is available as a digital download.

    http://www.funramacomic.com/ is open.

Don’t thank me. Just be there for me when I need you most.

  9. Hygeia, The Goddess of Health

This is the promo for FUNRAMA #4 that will run in Funrama #3: Cactus Man (writing and drawing that now). Hygeia, an original character of mine, is the featured cast member in the 4th “chapter” of the Funrama Presents storyline. When will it be done? I don’t know, I’m drawing about 4 or 5 comics right now.

  10. I’m finally digging into some comics I picked up at C2E2, starting with Ryan Kelly’s Funrama #2. You guys, it’s so cool. Funrama #1 felt like a goofy riff on Chris Claremont-era X-Men comics so that Kelly could scratch an itch and do something light-hearted and different from his usual, Vertigo-type work. That’s so not a bad thing, please don’t misunderstand me, but this second issue, though still weird and entertaining, gets deeper and hints at even further depths for Kelly to explore in future issues. It’s obviously still a way for Kelly to blow off some fun steam, but the main character – a high school superheroine named Raccoon – feels more real than the first issue’s Mutant Punks. It’s also surprising that he explains the name of the comic by using it in the story. I won’t spoil how, but it was a revelation to discover that Funrama is more than just a generic name for what I thought was going to be an anthology of loosely connected stories. Kelly’s doing some real world-building and even though he’s obviously having a great time doing it, he’s also building in some sinister elements that will pay off later. I highly recommend tracking him down at a convention for these or ordering them through his website.
